1921 – Turkvodkhoz, later Sredazvodkhoz. The Department of Hydrogeology worked on the restoration of irrigation systems Z.F.Gorizdro-Kulchitskaya (1925), N.F.Bezobrazova (1927), gave an overview of the hydrogeological conditions of the Chirchik, Angren, and Keles river basins. Leningrad specialists A.N.Nikolaev, S.A.Butov, S.F.Mashkovtsev (1925) were invited to study the Zarafshan River basin. Since 1924, a group of hydrogeologists led by O.K.Lange has been constantly working. The results of the research are published in the issues of the journal “Bulletin of Irrigation” and the works of the SAGU (Menshinkin, 1924-1928; Reshetkin, 1927-1929; Arkhangelsk, 1928; Tolstikhin, 1924-1928).

In the period from 1950 to 1960, hydrogeological and engineering-geological studies are associated with the names of H.M.Abdullaev, G.A.Mavlyanov, N.A.Kenesarin, H.T.Tulyaganov. The rapid development of the national economy – agriculture (especially cotton growing) and industry demanded new ideas from hydrogeologists and geological engineers in the development of science and production. The trust “Uzbekhydrogeology” (H.T.Tulyaganov and others), the Institute of HYDROINGEO (G.A.Mavlyanov) were organized. These divisions ensured the development of the national economy in the field of hydrogeology and engineering geology.

The Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology “GIDROINGEO” was established on November 29, 1959 by Resolution No. 737 of the Council of Ministers of the UzSSR in the system of the Academy of Sciences of the UzSSR.
Since June 4, 1971, by Order No. 250 of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR, the GIDROINGEO Institute has been part of the State Hydrogeological Enterprise Uzbekhydrogeology.
Since June 20, 2000, on the basis of Order No. 57 of the Uzbek Hydrogeology State Enterprise, the GIDROINGEO Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology has become its subsidiary.

On the basis of Resolution No. PP-568 “On measures to improve the organization of geological work and the activities of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Geology and Mineral Resources” and on the basis of the order of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Geology and Mineral Resources No. 11 dated 25.01.07, the Institute is a structural subdivision of the State Committee of Geology.

Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology (HYDROINGEO) It covers the territory of Central Asia, Southern Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan (arid zone) with its activities. It consists of 9 departments with 19 laboratories and an experimental and methodological party. The number as of 1.01.2008 is 353 people, including: 3 doctors, 28 candidates of sciences, 67 junior researchers, 22 senior engineers, 110 technicians of various specialties and laboratory assistants.
Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology (HYDROINGEO)
— conducts research work on the study of patterns of formation of groundwater; identification of resources and industrial brines for their use in the national economy; development of the main issues of reclamation hydrogeology of irrigated farming areas; study of patterns of distribution of loess rocks and their engineering-geological properties; improvement of methods and techniques of hydrogeological work; analysis of their economy and efficiency; scientific substantiation of hydrogeological and engineering-geological studies; development of individual practical proposals for the operational solution of issues of the national economy by industrial organizations; coordination of research and thematic work on hydrogeology and engineering geology of the arid zone. In these areas, the Institute has done work reflected in published works, symposiums, meetings and seminars, recommendations submitted to production organizations. However, in general, it lags behind in solving problems related to accelerating scientific and technological progress in hydrogeological and engineering-geological research. In particular, scientific works on geophysical methods, aerometodes, methods of hydrogeological and engineering-geological mapping and prospecting and exploration work and the development of theoretical foundations have not yet been properly developed. These areas contain large reserves for improving the geological and economic efficiency of hydrogeological and engineering-geological research. The plan of the Institute was formed without a clear sense of purpose, in connection with which the topics of the structural units are diverse and lack of connecting links in major problems of science and practice. Insufficient technical equipment. The Institute does not have a laboratory base that meets the requirements of modernity. In addition to technical equipment, it is necessary to attract additional specialists (scientists), as well as a powerful production and experimental base, without which further scientific and technological progress cannot be expected at the present stage of development of our society
